The world’s greatest steeplechase is back with the 2023 edition of the Grand National which takes place over the famous pursuit over 4 miles 2½ furlongs and is the highlight of the show jumping calendar with the recent winner of the Cheltenham Festival, Corach Rambler (6/1), the bookmaker. favorite ahead of last year’s winner Noble Yeats (8/1).
But there’s plenty more high-class racing on offer during the three-day event with new fan favorite and Cheltenham star Constitution Hill competing in the Grade One Aintree Hurdle on day one.
Nicky Henderson’s star won the Champion Hurdle by nine lengths last month and is 1/4 qualified to win the race which takes place on Thursday. The main rivals for this one will be Epatante (8/1) and Zanahyir (10/1), who can be expected to present a credible challenge despite disappointing performances from Cheltenham.
Also on day one, another Henderson favorite, Shishkin (11/4), will take on Gold Cup stars Bravemansgame (11/4), Conflated (7/2) Ahoy Senor (3/1) and A Plus Tard (7/2) at the Aintree Bowl (2:50pm), which has already been dubbed a potential ‘race of the year’.
On day two, there will be plenty more Grade One action to enjoy, with Marsh Chase taking the place of the main race.
This is a race that has often included those who did well in the Queen Mother Champion Chase a month earlier at Cheltenham. Race winner Energumene will not feature here, but Pic DOrhy (7/4) and Fakir Doudairies (9/4) are expected to engage in a titanic battle for victory.
