A California man has been arrested after impersonating a soldier and going on a crime rampage including breaking into a home, holding a man at gun point, carjacking a truck, robbing a supermarket and shooting at Sheriff’s deputies.
Jason Benson Dingler, 43, was eventually detained by officer’s on Friday afternoon after a high speed car chase in Grayson, near the city of Newman, ended in the suspect being shot in an orchard after he fired on deputies.
Dingler allegedly kicked down the door of a home at 3500 West Keyes Road in Keyes, and stole a gun from inside the property.
Claiming to be a soldier he then used the stolen firearm to hold a homeowner at gun point at 5000 Muncy Road around 5:26 pm, Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Surveillance footage shows the terrified man raising his hands above his head and calmly complying with Dingler’s orders.

Claiming to be a soldier Dingler used the stolen firearm to hold a homeowner at gun point at 5000 Muncy Road around 5:26pm
The suspect then reportedly used the gun to carjack a truck from the man at 5:31pm in the 5100 block of Muncy Road.
‘Call the cops and you’re dead,’ Dingler can be heard saying on the footage after demanding the truck keys.
Six minutes after the carjacking, an employee of the One Stop Market in Grayson reported an armed man stole alcohol and fled.
Surveillance footage released by the Sheriff’s Office shows the man picking up two large cases of beer, walking out of the shop and placing them in a truck in the parking lot.
A California Highway Patrol officer spotted Dingler driving the stolen truck moving southbound on Highway 33 at 5:44 p.m.
An officer attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle but Dingler sped away.
A high speed chase involving multiple deputies then ensued down Highway 33 for 11 miles, reaching speeds of 85 mph.
Air101, the Sheriff’s Office helicopter, helped monitor the Dingler’s whereabouts and aerial footage taken showed the moment Dingler’s vehicle sideswiped another car and careened off into an orchard at the side of the road.

Dingler took the stolen alcohol and left the store, an employee quickly alerted police

Dingler is seen walking out of the shop and placing them in a truck in the parking lot

A high speed chase involving multiple deputies then ensued down Highway 33 for 11 miles, reaching speeds of 85 mph

Dingler’s vehicle sideswiped another car and careened off into an orchard at the side of the road
Still unwilling to yield footage shows Dingler running into the orchard and taking shots at deputies advancing on foot.
At one point he was seen dropping onto his belly to fire again at deputies.
Deputies taking cover behind their vehicles called on a loudspeaker for Dingler to put his hands up and were met with gunfire from the suspect, according to the sheriff’s office.
Their patrol vehicle was hit four times, the sheriff’s office said.
Eventually, at 6:26pm two deputies fired at him, striking him once but he refused to surrender.
Deputies continued their advance and apprehended the suspect 20 minutes later.
They immediately began rendering medical aid until he could be transported to a hospital by an ambulance crew.
He was later released from hospital and is due to appear in court on Thursday.

Dingler has been charged with residential burglary, carjacking, burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, robbery using a handgun, evading a peace officer, hit and run, possession of a stolen vehicle, attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and being a prohibited person in possession of ammunition and a firearm.
