A Texas couple has been arrested after they allegedly injected their one-year-old baby daughter – at least 14 to 18 times – with methamphetamine to alleviate the child’s agonizing burns after the infant was scalded by scorching hot liquid.
Amanda Mann, 31 and Dustin Michael Lawrence, 30, were charged with abuse endangering a child, endangering a child risking bodily injury and related offenses, police said, according to the San Antonio Express.
The couple injected their child with the deadly drug and applied burn ointment to her skin rather than seek medical care when liquids boiling from the stove spilled onto her face and body, authorities say.
The burns that covered her face and upper and lower body were so severe it caused a portion of her skin to come off. Allegations include the toddler presenting with 14 to 18 syringe marks on her skin, WSBT reported.
Both Mann and Lawrence were arrested on Sunday after they abandoned their baby at the hospital. They are currently being held at Bexar County Jail and their bail has been set at $450,000.

Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said during a news conference on Monday said, ‘Based on the level of outright torture this baby had to endure, I wish there was something we could charge them with’
It remains unclear the exact condition of the child. Doctors revealed that the child suffered burns to 17 percent of her body.
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar said during a news conference on Monday that the couple have six children – a two-year-old, a six-year-old, an eight-year-old and two-month-old twins.
He pointed out that the newborns were born at home with no medical assistance in a filthy RV that they live in.
Sheriff Salazar offered a grotesque account of what took place on Saturday morning when the couple pulled the sheets off their baby and saw the horror.
‘Her skin came off and stuck to the sheets,’ Salazar revealed.
Instead of taking their child to the hospital, the sheriff, said the couple continued to treat her with burn ointment. When her condition grew worse, and she started to have trouble breathing, the pair did chest compressions.
It was until a friend convinced Mann and Lawrence to them to take her to a hospital in which they did before abandoning her.
‘In my estimation, these people knew they were going to be in huge trouble, and so they decided to keep it quiet,’ Salazar said.
‘Based on the level of outright torture this baby had to endure, I wish there was something we could charge them with.’
But, added that if the child does not survive, that changes the situation.

The mother now faces a slew of charges and is being held on a $450,000 bond
The father is also facing serious charges since the couple were taken into custody on Sunday
Deputies found out about the horrid abuse on Sunday when they went to the hospital. The sheriff said the officers had trouble locating the mother, but she was eventually located in the hospital’s parking lot.
Another one of the couple’s children tested positive for meth, a report said.
One of the neighbors reported to police an incident when they saw one of their young children outside unsupervised walking the fence line.
Investigators with child protective services have had involved with the family since 2020 but there was no legal action taken, WSBT reported.
The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services said the state has custody of all the children involved but could not confirm further involvement with the family.
