A couple trying to visit every single pub in the UK to try and encourage Brits to visit their locals have named their favourite town in the UK for a pint.
Dale Harvey and his wife Holly have already visited more than 2,000 after they decided to embark on a challenge to visit every pub in the UK after they noticed how many were being boarded up.
Dale said: “We’d go somewhere for a walk with the dogs and want to go to the pub afterwards but the closest one would be shut.
“They’re a part of British heritage, they’re a part of our culture. For loads of people, the pub gives them their first job, it’s where they spend time with their friends.
“It made us sad and we wanted to do something to get people into their locals.
“We’ve had people tell us now that they’ve lived in an area for 20 years and didn’t know a pub was there or was nice and because of us, they go in.”
The couple from Nottinghamshire have visited 2,229 pubs across the country so far, and they’re not stopping there.
“We can do six on a Thursday, 14 on a Friday, 17 on a Saturday and six on a Sunday so we’re doing almost 50 a week,” Dale said.
“I was able to visit 22 in six hours the other day. And because of the project taking off, people know we’re coming, they meet us, the pubs post about us online.
“We have a half-pint in each and it’ll take us hours to get around them so it’s not bad. But we’ve got to switch up the drinks we have or it gets monotonous. I like Peroni but there’s only so much I can take.”
Dale, who runs a framing business, said it would be impossible to choose a favourite due to the types of pubs they visit being so different.
“We really like the older ones. They’re such special places and have an amazing atmosphere,” Dale said.
“We’ve been some to the oldest in the country – Ye Olde Fighting Cocks in St Albans from 793 and Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem in Nottingham from 1189.
“But the best town we’ve ever been to is Stamford in Lincolnshire. We fell in love, it’s like stepping back in time. It’s old buildings and cobbled streets, everyone should visit.
“This challenge is taking us to places we’ve never been, never even heard of. It’s the best thing we’ve ever done.”
